Summer School Workshop

In connection with the presentation of the show “Bombyx Mory” at the D. Maria II National Theater in Lisbon, Polish choreographer and dancer Ola Maciejewska is leading a short workshop in Porto, at the mala voadora space.

Working around the following keywords: re-enactment, modes of transmission, and environment, the artist proposes a workshop consisting of physical practice and the execution of tasks/scores based on instructions she has proposed. These specific tasks will lead to absurd situations. The artist proposes that the group develop other joint activities, such as readings, discussions, and exercises around the keywords, which she is currently developing for her new creation.

Born in Poland and currently based in Paris, Ola Maciejewska is a dancer and choreographer. Her work is distinguished by a strong interdisciplinary approach to dance. In 2012, she obtained a Master’s degree in Contemporary Theater and Dance Studies at Utrecht University and, during her academic research, made her debut with a performance entitled Loie Fuller: Research (2011), which was presented at Art Space TENT Rotterdam, CN D Pantin, École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris (as part of La Nuit Blanche curated by the Palais de Tokyo), FIAC – Paris International Contemporary Art Fair, Zamek Ujazdowski – Contemporary Art Center, Centre Pompidou-Malaga, 14th edition of the Lyon Biennale ‘Mondes Flottants’, the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, the Kanal-Centre Pompidou, and the Museo Reina Sofía, to name but a few. In the fall of 2015, Ola Maciejewska premiered BOMBYX MORI in Paris at the Ménagerie de verre as part of the Les Inaccoutumés Festival. The show has toured extensively and has been presented at the Kaaitheater, Tanz im August, Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, Rotterdamse Schouwburg, Veem Huis Voor Performance, ImPulsTanz in Vienna, and many more. BOMBYX MORI is supported by the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès as part of New Configurations #6. From 2016 to 2018, Ola Maciejewska is an associate artist at the Centre chorégraphique national de Caen in Normandy. Her new work DANCE CONCERT had its world premiere at the National Taichung Theatre in Taiwan.
