BoCA Sub21 is a participatory and experimental project that was born in Lisbon (Portugal) during the first edition of the BoCA contemporary arts biennial. For young people aged between 16 and 21. In 2025, the project took place in Lisbon and Madrid.
During the seven weeks of BoCA 2025, two groups in each city (in Lisbon at Espaço BoCA and in Madrid at the Goethe-Institut) explored the proposed themes with the aim of developing their own artistic creations. The result of this dialogue was the creation of a multidisciplinary artistic presentation that took place in each of the cities, celebrating the artistic identities of each collective and their intersections.
Who can sign up?
1. We’re looking for free souls who haven’t lived past the age of 21 and who believe that the voice of a generation can transform the world through micro, small, medium and simple opportunities.
2. We invite these restless minds to join a critical and authorial platform - of observation and creation - that not only lives within a transdisciplinary and challenging artistic biennial, but also draws from it the impetus to cross visual arts, performing arts, performance, music, embroidery, literature or gardening…
3. With this group, we want to design a laboratory in process, where we experience artistic exchange and the continuous sharing of a space for meeting, learning and crossing paths, open to all profiles of people.
4. We understand this invitation - which materializes in thinking sessions and creative challenges - as a space of possibility, where “things” can happen. And the group will decide what those “things” will be.
5. We want to listen to you. We want to discover with you what it’s like to be a spectator. Between conversations, laughter, debates, writing, image-making and publications that involve body and mind.
