A Crude Link
Performance and Music Workshop

Pedro Alves Sousa

6 – 7 January 2024

Polo Cultural das Gaivotas, Lisboa

Summer School Workshop

When we speak of the genuine act of creation, we speak of an offering that comes from a spiral, from neurosis and love—situated on a Cartesian graph of spirituality and despair. Through techniques of chance and repetition, we will explore how music defines a meta-architecture and how its space-time relationship influences the subjective human experience.

An unstoppable saxophonist and vital energy for various movements in this and other cities, Pedro Sousa is recognized for his rare and natural ability to inhabit and blend different musical spheres, which, in his journey through jazz in various forms, the most unruly electronic music, through skewed rock and improvisations without name or place, he never loses his personal collection and stamp of the most honest and nonconformist. In addition to participating in music in his own name, he founded bands such as Má Estrela, EITR, Rajada, Falaise, Canzana, Betas, Espaço Emocional, OTO, a quartet with which he maintains close collaboration (João Lencastre, Rodrigo Pinheiro, and Hernani Faustino), and several duos, such as with David Maranha or Simão Simões. He is also co-founder of Casa Futuro, Peter Gabriel Duo, Ferrandini-Sousa-Pinheiro trio, Pão e Performance Colectiva (Gabriel Ferrandini, Maria Reis, Rudi Brito, André Cepeda). He also participates in several bands, such as Caveira, Volúpias das Cinzas, Serpente.
