Anastasia Ax
Anastasia AX (1979) is a Swedish artist who lives and works between Stockholm and Athens. She studied at the Royal College of Art in Stockholm (2003-06), at the Royal Danish Art Academy in Copenhagen (2000-02), and at the Photography School at Gothenburg University. She won the 2015 Faber Castell International Drawing Award, given by the Neues Museum in Nurenburg. In 2010, she was nominated for the Carnegie Art Award. Her work is present in the collection of several museums, including Modern Museet, Goteborgs Konstmuseum, the Carnegie Art Award Collection, and Gävle Konstcentrum.
Her complex, explosive approach fuses sculpture, physical actions, ink drawings, installation, music and noise. Her most recent solo work has been presented at Museu de Serralves (Oporto), National Theatre of Athens, Am Art Space (Shangai), Göteborgs Konsthall, Moderna Museet (Stockholm), Kunsthalle Athena, Exile (Moderna Museet, Stockholm), Kulturhuset (Stockholm). She presented Bring New Life to death, a performance in collaboration with Marja Leena Sillanpää at Fundação Joan Miró (Barcelona, 2012), An Experimental Conference About Art and Science (Moderna Museet, Estocolmo), Reactor (Luleå Konstmuseeum, 2011), Trunk (Göteborgs konstmuseum, 2010), The Kid (Taidihalli, Helsínquia, 2010), L & A in collaboration with Lars Siltberg (Galleri Verkligheten and Reykjavik Art Museum, 2010), and Exile (Christina Wilson Gallery, Copenhagen, 2010, and Natalia Goldin Gallery, Stockholm, 2009).
Anastasia’s work is inspired by the idea of construction and deconstruction, and she often shows the processes before, during and after. For some years she has developed an artistic practice in which different means of sculpture, performance, ink drawing and sound envelop the creation in a wordless language indicative of our chaotic world. Each of her performances and installations points to undefined, free situations, where the interior and exterior could easily switch places.
