Biennial 2019 –

Angélica Liddell
Lo Frío y lo Cruel

26 – 27 April

Braga – Mosteiro de Tibães Biennial 2019 Show

Angélica Liddell, one of the leading names in contemporary European theater, with whom BoCA has maintained a close relationship—it was at the BoCA Summer School in 2017, in the workshop “The Eloquence of the Wound or The Tragedy of Freedom: Transgression” that began the research that led to the show “Scarlet Letter”—now returns to Portugal to develop a new creation.

Taking Leopold Von Sacher-Masoch’s narrative as its starting point, Gilles Deleuze’s text “The Cold and the Cruel” (1967) analyzes the concept of sadomasochism, which he describes as a “semiological monster.” In this new creation, Angélica Liddell focuses on the philosophical aspect of perversions, far removed from any clinical explanation, highlighting poetic expression that goes beyond any boundaries or artistic discipline to present the relationship between father and son, that is, between those who are going to die and God.
