What if the Autobiographical isn’t More than the Story of others Passing Through Us? – Installation

1 October

Lisboa – MAAT – Museu de Arte, Arquitetura e Tecnologia Biennial 2023 Installation

As part of the installation “What if the autobiographical isn’t more than the story of others crossing us?”, a new creation by visual artist Gabriel Chaile that pays homage to Alcindo Monteiro, in Praça do Carvão do MAAT, takes place on Sunday, 1st of October, the third activation in partnership with Lisboa Criola.

At 5pm, we screen the documentary “Alcindo” by Miguel Dores, with the director present. A documentary that reflects on racism, starting from the tragic episode of June 10, 1995, in Lisbon, in which a group of Portuguese ethno-nationalists took to the streets of Bairro Alto to beat black people – Alcindo Monteiro was one of these people and he died.

The session continues with a debate – moderated by Paula Cardoso (Afrolink) and with the participation of Lúcia Furtado and Flávio ‘LBC Souldjah’ Almada – and ends with the music of Cesária Évora resonating with the voice of Rúben Torres.
