Biennial 2019 –

Paulo Castro
Workshop with Paulo Castro

18 April

Porto – Teatro Carlos Alberto / TNSJ Biennial 2019 Workshop

Paulo Castro is a Portuguese creator who has long been based in Australia, developing visceral and urgent, political and interventionist theater based on contemporary dramaturgy. Edward Bond, Lars Noren, Harold Pinter, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Fernando Arrabal, Paul Auster, Samuel Beckett, and Heiner Müller are some of the authors Paulo Castro presents in provocative stagings, but he has also written his own texts and created performances with the participation of marginal identities, such as the Spanish transvestite Regina Fiz (“Regina contra a arte contemporânea”) and Australian Aborigines (“Security World,” Adelaide).

In the workshop, he will develop a “self-devised” work based on political theater and how it can be explored in the context of a performance. Paulo Castro proposes to explore with participants the political and artistic qualities of the contemporary art world.
