“O BARCO / THE BOAT” BY GRADA KILOMBA, A COMISSION OF BoCA 2021, FOR THE FIRST TIME IN BRAZIL

From 13 April, the Galpão Gallery at the Inhotim Institute, the largest open-air museum in Latin America, will host Grada Kilomba’s poetic, performative and sculptural work, “O Barco / The Boat”. Made up of 134 blocks of burnt wood, stretched over 32 metres in the shape of a ship, the piece was commissioned and inaugurated at BoCA 2021, in MAAT’s Coal Square, in front of the River Tagus.

On Sunday 14 April, at 2pm, the first act of the performance will be carried out by the Ensemble Lisboa group, which brings together gospel and operatic voices, as well as classical percussionists and dancers. In the following acts, there will be a re-enactment of the performance with a group made up of local artists from Brumadinho and the region.
