International touring

Between 2023 and 2025, BoCA will tour internationally projects resulting from commissions and house productions. These are projects in different artistic territories – Polish artist Agnieszka Polska with her brilliant theater show “The Talking Car” – and some projects celebrate unprecedented encounters between artists from areas such as dance and music (Marco da Silva Ferreira & João Pais Filipe, “Terra Cobre”; and Bendik Giske & Romeu Runa, “The endlessly repeated risings and fallings of desire”), visual arts and participation (Argentinean artist Gabriel Chaile with his oven-sculpture “Alcindo Monteiro”, which brings together artistic communities around an anti-racist perspective) or dialogues among different music genres (harpist Frederica Campos with Os Moços da Viola Campaniça, the traditional guitar from Alentejo).

AGNIESZKA POLSKA
Theatre

Award-winning Polish artist Agnieszka Polska creates the show “The Talking Car”, with Albano Jerónimo, Íris Cayatte, Bartosz Bielenia, Aaron Ronelle and Vera Maintaino. A group of people travel in a car that doesn’t stop. A show about the role of someone trapped in the complex system of human, non-human agents and socio-technological infrastructures, in which the boundaries of past and future are blurred.

MARCO DA SILVA FERREIRA & JOÃO PAIS FILIPE
Dance and music performance

“Terra Cobre” is a new creation that brings together the musician and sculptor João Pais Filipe and the choreographer and dancer Marco da Silva Ferreira, who combine the traditional rattle art of small area of Alcáçovas – an ancestral method of a manual manufacturing process – with an exciting experimentation on percussion and dance.

GABRIEL CHAILE
Installation and public activations

Gabriel Chaile created the installation “Alcindo Monteiro” – a tribute to Alcindo Monteiro, a young Portuguese man, born in Cape Verde, brutally murdered in 1995, in a crime that exposed the structural racism that still finds space and legitimization today. This sculpture-oven provides a series of collective activations, with food, debates, music or cinema, a different program in each city.

BENDIK GISKE & ROMEU RUNA
Concert-performance

Surrendered to the obsessive desire to wander, in a mesmerizing trance, the Norwegian saxophonist and the Portuguese dancer and actor come together for a beautiful and visceral concert-performance, “The endlessly repeated risings and fallings of desire”, in memory to the queer writer’s work Samuel Delany.

ODETE & CATY OLIVE
Performance

“Il y a une larme dans chaque note et un soupir dans chaque pli” evokes the castrati and explores their vocal and aesthetic universe. Together, Odete & Caty Olive propose to imagine that the castrati could be a form of fiction in a place whose contours remain fluid and which (is) transformed.
