The year behind: the colours 2024 brought along

2024 was a colourful year for BoCA. We kicked off in January with Um Bruto Enlace, a sound arts workshop by Pedro Alves Sousa, embracing sound as a meta-architectural experience. We also launched a series of Mini-Docs that allow us to continue exploring the different layers of the creations that keep BoCA thriving.

The colour green took over the programme in March, with a return to Lisbon’s Vale de Chelas to plant 450 trees to feed our creation project, over 10 years, of a ‘forest of artworks’. The Defence of Nature would also take us to the north of Portugal, both Braga’s Monte Picoto and Penafiel, where we also celebrated the opening of Ponto C in September, with Gabriel ChaileFreirianas Guerreiras and O Gringo Sou Eu.

The colours turned bright in July with the start of the BoCA Summer School, courtesy of the Huni Kuin (pictured), who came to share with us ancestral artistic practices. The workshops continued, within sculpture with Gabriel Chaile, and with the body and voice practices of Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz and Niño de Elche. We gathered a total of 75 participants throughout these five workshops.

December brought us the performative occupation of the 2nd edition of Mutants – between the theatre and the museum, in partnership with Centro Cultural de Belém and its MAC / Museu de Arte Contemporânea (Museum of Contemporary Arts). The participatory project by BoCA, coordinated by Sara Franqueira, took place over four months and included the participation of João Fiadeiro, Patrícia Portela and Musa paradisiaca.

The power of the meeting and the collective continue to inspire and dictate the hues for the new year. In 2025 we’ll be crossing yet another frontier, stay tuned and come take the leap with us!
