João Maria Gusmão & Pedro Paiva

Since 2001, João Maria Gusmão (Lisbon, 1979) and Pedro Paiva (Lisbon, 1978) have collaborated in the creation of objects, installations, 16 and 35mm films, and publishing projects.

As a duo, they have participated in several international biennials: 27^th São Paulo Biennial in 2006; 6^th Mercosul Biennial in Porto Alegre (Brazil); Manifesta 7 (Italy) in 2008; 53^rd Venice Biennial (Portuguese Pavilion) in 2009; 8^th Gwangju Biennial (South Korea) in 2010; and in the central exhibition of the 55^th Venice Biennial in 2013.

Recent solo shows include: in 2016, The Sleeping Eskimo at Kunsthaus Aarau (Switzerland); 2014/15, Papagaio at HangarBicocca (Milan), Camden Arts Centre (London) and KW Berlin; in 2011, Alien Theory at Frac Île-de-France, Le Plateau (Paris); There’s nothing more to tell because this is small, as is every fecundation at Museo Marino Marini (Florence); Tem gwef tem gwef dr rr rr at Kunsthalle Dusseldorf; in 2010, On the Movement of the Fried Egg and Other Astronomical Bodies at Ikon Gallery (Birmingham); in 2008, Horizonte de Acontecimientos at PhotoEspaña (Madrid); and Abissologia: para uma ciência transitória do indiscernível at Cordoaria Nacional in Lisbon, in collaboration with ZDB and Câmara Municipal de Lisboa.
