BoCA – Bienal de Artes Contemporâneas is launching its first publication, marking a significant moment in its ten years of activity.

This editorial project celebrates the biennial’s trajectory, proposing a reflection on multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary artistic practices. The book is structured along two main axes: on the one hand, it revisits BoCA’s previous editions, outlining a panorama that covers the project’s past, present and future, and on the other, it promotes a wide-ranging debate around contemporary themes. As well as consolidating BoCA’s work, the book opens up new perspectives for reflection on artistic creation, both nationally and internationally.

With a foreword by Tiago Rodrigues, the book brings together a set of texts commissioned from Cláudia Madeira, Claudia Galhós, Raquel Lima, Gonçalo M. Tavares, Gaya de Medeiros, Odete, Delfim Sardo and Sara Franqueira, a multi-handed interview, documentation of creative processes and interviews with artists, and a series of unpublished visual works commissioned from Gus Van Sant, Agnieszka Polska, Romeo Castellucci and Tânia Carvalho, proposing a reflection on different artistic processes and allowing the reader to discover the essence of the creative journey behind them.

The presentation will feature BoCA artistic director John Romão, curator Delfim Sardo, writer and journalist Claudia Galhós, set designer and researcher Sara Franqueira, and BoCA executive director Suzanne Marivoet.
