“Buss dem heads” is an experimental, nomadic module, an all-terrain performance for clubs, streets, museums, or galleries. Cecilia Bengolea has visited Jamaica many times, developing a lasting interest in the musical and choreographic expressions that came out of Kingston in the 1960s as reggae and “sound systems” evolved, with sounds like a cry of rebellion and resistance to the social oppression of the poor classes.

In “Buss dem head,” Cecilia Bengolea and Damion BG Dancerz explore the variety, complexity, and virtuosity of old school reggae, dancehall gansta, and other styles that carry historical importance. In Lisbon, she is joined by Portuguese DJ Nigga Fox, whose experimental electronic music incorporates the musical traditions of the African diaspora.

The evening promises to be an explosion of rhythm and references that will no doubt leave us spent.
